I designed this compost/worm bin to help supply nutrients for my raised-bed garden, and I’ve been using it for months with excellent results. I’ve clearly noticed an increase in fruit yield on my tomato plants. If you’re looking into something like this, you’re probably already familiar with the benefits that worm castings and composting provide for a healthy garden. The setup is simple: start with a layer of shredded paper, add vegetable scraps from the kitchen, and top it off with about a ¾-inch layer of compost. You can add worms collected from around your garden—check under rocks or other structures after a rainy day—or purchase them, as they’re easy to find. Either way, worms will naturally make their way to the food, especially when there’s consistent moisture. To install, twist right to lock in place and leave about 1 inch above ground for easy access.
