A caganer is a birth figurine that is usually placed in nativity scenes, as a tradition in Catalonia, the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands, usually hidden in a corner, behind a bush, crouched and in a position of defecating.This figure is also common in nativity scenes in other parts of Spain, as well as in Italy and Portugal, where they are called nada or zurrapa.
