Purussaurus

Beschreibung

Purussaurus was a gigantic prehistoric caiman that lived during the Miocene epoch, around 8 to 5 million years ago. It was one of the largest crocodyliforms ever, growing up to 12 meters (39 feet) in length and weighing over 8 metric tons. With its massive size and powerful jaws, Purussaurus was an apex predator, likely feeding on large prey such as fish, turtles, and possibly even land mammals. It had a broad snout and robust body, well-suited for an aquatic lifestyle in the rivers and wetlands of ancient South America. Fossils of Purussaurus have been discovered primarily in the Amazon Basin, in areas like modern-day Brazil, Peru, and Colombia.
