Most climbing plants evolved in dense and tall tropical rainforests where climbing on trees and other structures is advantageous in order to increase their exposure to sunlight. While most can grow without support indoors, a plank or moss pole allows them to mimic their natural tendency to climb and therefore encourages denser foliage & larger leaves. ❓ What are the advantages of a moss pole over other support? Moss poles (typically containing sphagnum moss) serve a dual purpose. They provide support for the climbing plant while also allowing roots within the pole to absorb water and nutrients.
