Beschreibung

Pteranodon was a large, winged reptile that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, often mistaken for a dinosaur though it was a pterosaur. It had an impressive wingspan that could reach up to 33 feet (10 meters), allowing it to soar over ancient seas and landmasses. Pteranodon is best known for its distinctive, elongated crest at the back of its head, which likely played a role in balancing during flight or possibly in mating displays. Its beak was long and toothless, making it well-suited for catching fish, its primary food source. With its lightweight body and hollow bones, Pteranodon was an expert glider, using thermal air currents to travel long distances with minimal effort. It is believed that Pteranodon spent much of its time near coastal regions, diving into the water to catch fish much like modern seabirds. Its sharp eyesight and keen hunting skills made it a highly efficient predator in its environment. Pteranodon, like other pterosaurs, had membranous wings stretched between an extended fourth finger and its body, giving it an appearance quite distinct from modern birds or bats. Though not a dinosaur, it remains one of the most iconic prehistoric flying reptiles.
