Once a harmless forest sprout, Grumcap was born in the damp shadows beneath ancient trees where mushrooms whispered and roots remembered everything. Unlike the others of his kind, Grumcap grew aware. He listened to the forest being trampled, burned, and carved apart. Each insult to the soil hardened him. When loggers poisoned the ground, Grumcap absorbed the toxins instead of dying. His soft body thickened, his cap turned a warning red, and his friendly spores became corrosive. The pain twisted his mind, locking his face into a permanent snarl—teeth bared not from hunger, but rage. Now Grumcap roams the forest edges, small but relentless. He doesn’t chase—he waits. Those who disrespect the land feel eyes on them, hear wet footsteps behind them, and realize too late that the “cute mushroom” they mocked is a vengeful guardian. He attacks not to kill, but to punish, leaving survivors terrified and scarred so they’ll spread the warning. The forest remembers. Grumcap makes sure no one forgets.
