To resolve the oil crisis of the 1970s, research began on a new passenger aircraft engine that would take advantage of the fuel efficiency of turboprop engines while increasing speeds to the level of turbofan engines. These engines were variously called propfans, open rotors, unducted fans, and ultra-high bypass engines, and research progressed, but the subsequent drop in oil prices and noise issues led to the halt of research. In 2017, Safran conducted ground tests of a planetary gear, contra-rotating, pusher engine. CFM International announced plans for the "RISE" program in 2021. Unlike the previous engines, this one appears to have a unique configuration: a towed design with one fan stage and one guide vane stage. As demand for a sustainable world grows stronger, I believe it is necessary to develop engines that prioritize efficiency. Based on this, I hope that such a sustainable engine will become a reality in the future, so I created my own new model teaching material.
