Section of a World War 1 Monument in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium by Scan The World

This is a section of a larger World War 1 monument dedicated to those killed and affected in Sint-Niklaas. The monumental piece is iconic to Sint-Niklaas, located on the east side of Houtbriel Square. The monument of unveiled on the 30th May 1926. On 6th August 1923 the City Council decided to set up a fund of 100,000 Francs to glorify the heroes "who made their living for the liveration of our country and bear their own memory for the remining lives"(??). 50,000 Francs were paid by a special committee which campaigned for the creation of a Sacred Heart state (also on Scan the World). A contract was awarded to the sculptor Bruno Gerrits who consented in writing on August 20th 1923. Gerrits asked for 29,500 Francs for the realization of the sculpture group. This object is part of "Scan The World".
