From 1803 to 1809 Mary Anne Clarke was mistress of Frederick, Duke of York. Their affair turned into a political scandal when the Duke was charged with corruption for promoting offers from whom Clarke had taken bribes. Renounced by the Duke, Clarke wrote her own revealing memoirs and extracted huge pensions from the government to suppress them. This marble sculpture depicts Mary Anne Clarke (1776-1852) and was sculpted by Lawrence Gahagan (1756-1820) in 1811. This object is part of "Scan The World".
