Description

The Utahraptor was a large theropod dinosaur that lived at the end of the Lower Cretaceous, around 126 million years ago. Famous for its imposing size, it measured between 5 and 7 meters in length and weighed between 500 and 1000 kg. A member of the dromaeosauridae family, it had sickle-shaped claws, up to 24 cm long, used to grasp and tear its prey. Although no feather fossils have been found, it is likely that it was covered in feathers. Diet: Carnivorous, probably hunting large herbivores. Size and weight: Between 5 and 7 meters long, weighing between 500 and 1,000 kg. Claws: Large sickle-shaped claws on its toes, used for attacking. Group hunting: Although unproven, it is possible that he hunted in groups to subdue larger prey. Discovery: Discovered in the Cedar Mountain Formation, Utah, in 1975, and scientifically described in 1991. Habitat: Lived on alluvial plains in a variety of environments, from forests to open plains. Significance: Although less well known than Velociraptor, Utahraptor was a fascinating super-predator of its time.
