Leonidas was the legendary King of Sparta who led 300 Spartans and other Greek allies against the Persian Empire at the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. Legacy: He is a global symbol of courage and sacrifice. His famous defiance, "Molon Labe" (Come and take them), remains one of history's most iconic military phrases.
