Once these battlements crowned the frontier of an empire, their crenels manned by archers and sentinels who believed the wall would never fall. Now the stone blocks slump into one another, half-swallowed by rubble and earth where the ground itself seems to have risen up to reclaim them. Travelers still feel watched when they pass, as if the ghosts of long-dead wardens remain on duty, guarding a border that no map remembers.
