Hello Kitty es un personaje ficticio japonés creado por Yuko Shimizu y producido por la compañía Sanrio en 1974. Representa a una gatita blanca de estilo antropomorfo, con un lazo (o adorno) en la oreja izquierda y sin boca, lo que permite que quien la mire proyecte en ella sus propias emociones. Según su historia oficial, vive en las afueras de Londres, es alegre, amable y le encanta hornear tartas de manzana, coleccionar objetos pequeños y pasar tiempo con su hermana gemela, Mimmy. Con el tiempo, se ha convertido en un ícono mundial de la cultura kawaii y en una de las marcas más reconocidas de la cultura pop.
