Description

Torvosaurus is a genus of large theropod dinosaur that lived in the Upper Jurassic, around 150 million years ago, mainly in North America and Portugal. It belongs to the Megalosauridae family, a group of primitive carnivores compared to the more famous Cretaceous tyrannosaurs. Skull details : Estimated length: around 1.2 meters, or as long as that of an adult allosaurus, if not longer. Solid and elongated, with a massive lower jaw. Openings (fenestrae) typical of theropods, lightening the skull while anchoring powerful muscles. Long, strong teeth, slightly curved back and serrated, perfect for slicing flesh. Powerful jaw capacity, well suited to inflicting serious wounds on large prey. Eye position: lateral, as with most large predators of this era, somewhat limiting binocular (depth) vision, but widening the field of vision.
