Description

Build a fully functional 127mm f/7 Newtonian telescope for around €60 in hardware using this modular 3D printable design. This is a real optical instrument, capable of showing the rings of Saturn, detailed lunar craters, and bright deep-sky objects. This design is based on the D127F900 configuration and provides a good balance between magnification and image clarity. It supports standard 1.25” eyepieces and includes a stable collimation system using threaded rods and springs, allowing precise optical alignment. The design is also flexible and can be adapted for optical setups up to 127mm aperture (D127) and focal lengths up to 1000mm (F1000), making it suitable for a range of similar mirror configurations. All structural parts are designed for PLA printing and are split into multiple pieces to fit most 3D printers. Some components can also be manufactured using CNC-cut wood for improved rigidity. The telescope is designed to mount on a standard camera tripod, but this can be easily modified. Assembly is straightforward and based entirely on standard metric hardware. No complex tools are required, and the structure is intuitive to build. Fine adjustments are made using threaded rods and tuning wheels, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced makers.
