Description

The original y stepper mount on these printers isn't great. Originally I added a backside bracket on the y stepper to reduce flex on the single sided metal bracket and that helped until it actually broke. I run heavy tension to try to cope with the backlash in the bed from slinging the huge bed around and eventually the y stepper motor itself actually failed. The drive shaft and pulley bent and wasn't turning true anymore as it's in single shear and a big moment arm from the bed weight getting throw around on it. So this is the next evolution to upgrade this machine. The main bed belt runs on the same pulley as before but its supported in double sheer and rides on 4 bearings on the jackshaft mount. The jackashaft bolts to the frame on two faces and also has a provision for aluminum gusset brackets on the ends for additional mounting stiffness (uses a brass heatset insert and bracket sourced from amazon). Then the stepper motor mounts to the frame via is own bracket/cradle and uses a small belt to actually turn the jackshaft. You will need longer bolts for the stepper to use the backside mounts. I am currently testing a 20:30 drive ratio (20 tooth stepper pulley, 30 tooth jackshaft input pulley) too to assist in controlling the bed mass more accurately (does require esteps change in firmaware) .
