Description

A while back, I noticed an odd behavior beginning to occur with both of my Wyze Robot Vacuums— after making connection with the spring-loaded contacts of the charging station, the vacuum would continue to slowly creep backward until the force tilted the charging station upward to the point where electrical contact is broken and the vacuum stops charging. I'm pretty sure this behavior coincided with a firmware update, but I can't say for sure. While the real solution is likely a firmware update that stops the backward motion once the charging circuit is energized, I solved this in the interim by designing and 3D printing a simple wall standoff that snugly fits around the top of the charging station (so as to accommodate (i.e. sit above) standard 3-1/4" x 1/2" base moulding) and makes contact with the sheetrock wall, preventing it from tilting upward. It works great for my charging station on the hardwood floor and, with some finagling, the one in my carpeted office.Note: The issue with placing your charging station against a wall in a room with wall-to-wall carpeting is that most residential carpeting is typically installed with a tack strip around the room’s perimeter that makes the carpet directly next to the wall or base moulding slightly higher than the rest of the carpet. This results in a misalignment between the charging contacts of the charging station and those of the vacuum. In some cases (usually when the carpet is older or not trimmed enough and excess bunches up…
