This haunting, hypnotic melody, played by the Piper, guides groups of gassed rats, moving quickly. Soldier rodents insinuate themselves into the tunnels like poison flowing through the veins of the trenches, spreading death with their toxic bites in time with the notes played. When the rats have finished their parts, the musician concludes the piece with the deadly gas fueling and escaping from the tip of his flute... When the piece of music ends and the gas has dissipated, there is no applause...only silence. Equipped with a few refillable gas cylinders, one of which is on the musician's back, they serve to feed and immunize the young rats raised in the cage...these future little soldiers
