Bison

Description

The bison is a large, herbivorous mammal native to North America and parts of Europe, recognized as one of the most iconic symbols of the grasslands. It has a robust and muscular build, with a shaggy, dark brown mane covering its head, shoulders, and neck. Its prominent hump over the shoulders is composed of powerful muscles that support its massive head, equipped with curved, sharp horns. Bison are social animals that live in herds and are known for their migratory behavior across plains and forests. Despite their bulky appearance, bison are surprisingly agile and can run at speeds up to 35 miles per hour. They are also excellent swimmers, capable of crossing rivers in search of food. Their diet primarily consists of grasses, herbs, and shrubs, making them vital for maintaining the balance of grassland ecosystems. Once on the brink of extinction due to overhunting, bison populations have rebounded due to conservation efforts. Today, they are celebrated as a keystone species and a symbol of resilience.
