Dolores Ibárruri (1895–1989), known as La Pasionaria ("the Passion Flower"), was a legendary Spanish Communist leader and orator during the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939). Famed for the slogan "¡No pasarán!" ("They shall not pass!") and "It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees," she served as a key Republic figure, later leading the Spanish Communist Party from exile in the USSR
