Palads Teatret was at the time Copenhagen's leading cinema with almost 3,000 seats and an orchestra pit for a large orchestra of thirty men under the direction of Herr kapelmester Fr. Schnedler Petersen. The very first film was Urban Gad's "Generalen Børn" with Asta Nielsen, and for 37 øre you could buy lager and fresh smoked salmon in the foyer's restaurant. The audience quickly dubbed the new cinema "Ta-plads-teateret". At the time, it was Europe's largest theater "for moving pictures" – a title it regained several times later. The subsequent and current Palads Theater opened on 26 January 1918. Designed by architects A. Clemmensen and J. Nielsen and built by Sophus Madsen. The first film was "Bjerg Ejvind og Hans Hustru". The figure "Ursus with the bull" It was a very elegant cinema with staffed cloakroom and dog sitting at selected shows. Violinist Jacob Gade conducted the orchestra.
