This is a simple portable compass I invented for which you just need the sun and the current time. How does it work? It works like an inverted sundial. - You put the Solar Compass on a flat surface in the sun - You rotate it until the shadow points to the current time - Now it's in the correct orientation, so you can see where north and the other directions are The 4 versions There are four versions of the Solar Compass. This is so there's one that works for every situation. Here are the abbreviations explained: - NH - ST = Northern Hemisphere, Standard Time - NH - DST = Northern Hemisphere, Daylight Savings Time - SH - ST = Southern Hemisphere, Standard Time - SH - DST = Southern Hemisphere, Daylight Savings Time Use and originality This gadget is perfect for hikers like me or other outdoor travelers. You can do a challenge for example where you use it to navigate long distances, or short distances, or you can just use it for fun. It feels like something that should have been invented a long time ago, along with the sundial. Yet I myself couldn't find anything that resembled this thing I made, which is pretty cool. Maybe it's because in ye olden times, compasses might have been more readily available than clocks/watches, while it's the other way around in modern times.
