The golden hand is typically worn on the lapel or chest of the wearer's tunic, and its presence indicates his position as the right hand of the monarch. Throughout the series, we see various characters sport this insignia, from loyal advisors to political schemers seeking to increase their own power. The Hand of the King can bestow this insignia on subordinates as a symbol of authority and legitimacy on their behalf, meaning that the golden hand can also be an indicator of favor and trust within the King's Landing power circle.
