(Gyroids are triply periodic minimal surfaces, a math-dictated shape that tiles seamlessly in all three dimensions.) Gyroids produce remarkably strong parts; so strong, in fact, that I probably could have gotten away with wall thicknesses of just 1.5 mm. As it is, at 3 mm, this stand could easily support 100 kg! In addition to their strength, gyroids have fascinating perspectival properties. Viewed from certain angles, it looks almost hollow; from others, completely solid. While this stand is not particularly hard to print, it is hard to print well.
