Planetary Clock

I have always loved the look of exposed gears antique clocks. There is an idea I have for a future model that really excites me, but I needed to test out a few things first before I attempt to construct it. So with that in mind, I created this clock to give me some ideas. The entire frame and all the gears were printed using Creality Hyper PLA, and then painted to look fun and match my decor. The only parts that are not prinatable and included in this model are the second hand and the clock mechanism itself. One of the things i was testing with this design was the strength of conventional mechanisms, so the one I used I ordered from Amazon©. Because of the size and various other problems I discovered, the minute hand is not a planetary gear set like the hour hand is. I attempted this, which is why there is a ring gear around the clock face. That would have been the 2nd sun gear. Main problem was that most clock mechanisms are just not strong enough or geared correctly to handle the drag imposed by such a (relatively) large gear set. When I built the clock, the minute hand still spun, but it simply slowed the motor down so much that the clock only worked at half speed. For the final design, I simply femoved the gears from the minute hand and the clock works great. Here is the link for the clock mechanism kit that I used.
