Th is diminutive insect, which spends most of the year camouflaged safely among the lower foliage, climbs high as the warm seasons wane. While the natural berries of the tree are found shriveled on the branch, the insect brandishes similarly shaped and vibrant orbs to entice migrating birds to dart in and consume the false fruit. Nestled within the digestive tracks of the bird, the burberry beetle larvae stay dormant throughout the winter and travel great distances within the avian migrations, waiting until the warmth of spring to then emerge in their droppings, crawling forth for a new year and new cycle of life.
