Dozens of specialized lily pad looking scales spread outwards along its legs, and as prey nestle in close the herragath will spear its beak downwards, impaling and securing another meal. As such a patient hunter requires absolute stillness, the bird has learned to mimic the surrounding predators to keep them far away at a safe distance."
