Butterfly Knife from CS Deburr & check parts: remove any thin strings, loose blobs, or sharp extrusion edges. Sand mating faces lightly for smooth motion. Fit test (dry): assemble pivot without any adhesives to check free motion; align handle halves with blade between them. Pivot selection For a smoother display action, use plastic bushings + a short M3 bolt + nylon nut or a nylon rivet sized to the pivot hole. Tighten bolts to be snug but not clamped — you want free rotation with minimal wobble. Shimming Use thin PTFE washers or printed 0.5 mm shims if there’s lateral play. Secure decorative caps Use press-fit or snap-fit decorative end-caps. If using screws, use threadlocker blue if you want semi-permanent, but avoid over-tightening. Latch (display) Model a non-locking friction latch or decorative loop; do NOT implement a functional locking mechanism. Final motion check Ensure the blade cannot be removed easily and that motion remains smooth. Label Install/engrave the “DISPLAY ONLY — NOT A WEAPON” marking where visible. 6) Finishing & surface treatment Sanding Start 120–220 grit to remove blobs; finish 400–600 for smooth surfaces. Filler & primer Use automotive filler primer for PLA/PETG; sand between coats. Acetone smoothing (ABS only) Vapor smoothing smooths layer lines — but do not use for parts with close tolerance hinge fits unless reworked after smoothing.
