O. megalodon, an extinct species of lamniform shark that lived from the Early Miocene to the Pliocene (approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago), was the largest known macropredatory shark in Earth’s history. Fossilized teeth constitute the primary evidence for reconstructing the anatomy, feeding behavior, and evolutionary relationships of this apex predator.
