🇬🇧 ENGLISH Joachim Schepke was born on May 22, 1912, in Berlin, Germany. From an early age, he was drawn to the sea and naval service, eventually joining the German Navy (Kriegsmarine) and training as a U-boat officer. Schepke quickly gained a reputation as a skilled and ambitious submariner during the early years of World War II. He is best known for his command of U-100, conducting several successful patrols in the Atlantic Ocean where he sank multiple Allied merchant ships, making him one of Germany’s prominent U-boat aces. Schepke received high military honors, including the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, for his effectiveness and bravery in submarine warfare. Schepke’s career ended tragically when U-100 was sunk by British forces on March 17, 1941, and he went down with his submarine.
