A 3D Printer Frame with a Fixed Bed I have not found a design that uses a fix bed so I thought I'd play around with a few designs as I bought materials to build my own printer and everything is just gathering dust... Starting off with lead screw design (no belts used) as that should in theory give best results if I can reduce or eliminate backlash (or so I've read... open to suggestions)... Motor over kill... Using more motors makes the design easier so I have used four motors to hoist the gantry and two more for the Y axis and one (possibly two) for the X axis. Using two motors at opposite ends would allow for the motion of the hot-end/Y axis to always be in tension, resulting in better precision at a small additional cost, but then I would have to switch to belts on whichever axis to accomplish this... Second version uses belts to driven X and Y (note.... FreeCAD (latest version for my distro), appears to add objects when exporting, please ignore extra wheels in this stl file (fixed)... All the parts are readily available with the exception of the motor brackets on X and Y, does anyone know where I can get some small aluminum brackets made? ... In the mean time I will print these but for the final printer I require machined parts for longevity and precision... More later....
