The Virgen de la Candelaria, also known as the Virgen del Socavón, is the patron saint of Oruro (Bolivia) and the heart of its famous Carnival, a celebration of faith, folklore and tradition that attracts thousands of devotees in February, being recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Heritage of Humanity, and is venerated with masses, processions (especially that of the Syrians), diabladas dances and a huge sculpture on the Cerro Santa Barbara.
