This is NOT a real firearm, it is a movie reenactment toy. The UMP is a recoil-operated submachine gun that fires closed bolt.When designed, the UMP was calibrated to employ larger caliber cartridges than other submachine guns such as the MP5, to provide more stopping power against unarmored targets (with a slightly shorter effective range) than the 9 x 19 Parabellum fired by the MP5. A larger cartridge produces more recoil and makes the weapon more difficult to control when fired in automatic mode. To alleviate this problem, the rate of fire was reduced to 650 rounds/minute (600 rounds/minute for the UMP45), making it one of the lowest rate submachine guns on the market. The UMP9 (the 9mm caliber version of the UMP) is almost 0.45 kg (almost 1 lb) lighter than the MP5. Being primarily constructed of polymer reduces both its weight and the number of parts susceptible to corrosion.
