🇬🇧 ENGLISH The Minotaur is a creature from ancient Greek mythology, described as having the body of a man and the head of a bull. According to legend, it was born from the union between Pasiphaë, queen of Crete, and a sacred bull sent by the god Poseidon. King Minos, ashamed of the monstrous child, ordered the architect Daedalus to build an enormous labyrinth beneath his palace at Knossos to imprison the beast. The Minotaur became a symbol of chaos, punishment, and the consequences of hubris. Each year, seven Athenian youths and seven maidens were sent into the labyrinth as a tribute to be devoured by the monster. The hero Theseus eventually entered the labyrinth, aided by Ariadne’s thread, and slew the Minotaur, ending its reign of terror. Beyond the myth, the Minotaur has come to represent humanity’s inner struggle between reason and instinct, civilization and savagery.
