Beetle Next on our list is the Scarab, one of the most important symbols of ancient Egypt. The scarab beetle (Scarabaeus sacer), also known as the Dung Beetle, represents the sun, the recreation of life/resurrection and transformation. Seeing dung beetles rolling balls of dung (as a food source), the ancient Egyptians believed that these beetles recreated life. However, this was because they confused the eggs laid and buried in the sand by female beetles with the rolls made as a food source. Consequently, they thought these beetles were "creating life out of nothing".
