This is part of my automation initiative in my house. I have recently installed a ventilation system and since I wanted to be able to control the fan speed via my smarthings system I looked for a Z-wave or Zigbee fan speed regulator. This was hard to find so I therefore went for a manual knob.....but there is always a workaround :D Since I had a ESP8266 I started investigating how to connect it to Smartthings. ST_Anything was the solution - this brilliant device handler enables you to connect almost any cheap sensor/relay to your smart home....I finally understand the power of IOT!! Remove the manual knob and insert the body part. Glue a servo arm to the servo arm part. I also glued the SG09 servo to the servo mount part. Install the servo mount part. Connect it to your ESP8266 board after configuring it and voila - your manual knob can now be controlled from your phone and be included in automations!! Attached is a video of the knob in action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xUWwEs0FlE The full explanation of my Smarthome ventilation system will be uploaded to my diy blog: http://www.diygarageprojects.com/
