Born in Denison, Texas, October 14, 1890-Washington D. C., March 28, 1969) was a military man and politician who served as the 34th President of the United States from 1953 to 1961. A five-star general in the United States Army during World War II, he was supreme allied commander on the Western European front, responsible for planning and overseeing the invasion of North Africa in Operation Torch between 1942 and 1943 and the successful Operation Overlord, with the subsequent liberation of France and Germany between 1944 and 1945.
